The Lascaux Cave

The Lascaux Cave, discovered in 1940 by four teenagers - Marcel Ravidat, Jacques Marsal, Georges Agnel, and Simon Coencas - after Ravidat's dog fell into a hole near the site, is renowned for its exceptional Paleolithic cave paintings, dating back around 17,000 years.

The artwork, which includes over 600 vivid depictions of animals such as horses, deer, and bulls, showcases remarkable skill & provides invaluable insights into prehistoric life and early human expression.

This dates back to a time when early humans used basic materials like stones & natural pigments to create artwork on cave walls, marking one of the earliest forms of human creativity, showcasing an early connection between art, communication, and the environment.

The Crossed Bison

The Cross Bison is a notable painting in the Lascaux Cave that captures the attention of viewers with its dynamic pose. The depiction of the two bulls in the Cross Bison painting are depicted with their legs crossed and facing opposite directions, which may symbolize a dynamic interaction between them.

The artist's choice to position the legs in this way adds a sense of realism and drama to the painting, emphasizing the strength and grace of the animal. This Bison is significant not just for its artistic style but also for what it represents.

Bison were important to prehistoric people for food, clothing & tools. This composition not only showcases artistic skill but also illustrates the deep connection between humans & the animals they observed, capturing the drama of the natural world.

Inspiration from the painting

The Story

The logo of Lascaux Designs draws inspiration from the iconic Cross Bison painting. The “X” in the logo symbolizes the crossed legs of the bulls, capturing the dynamic energy and movement seen in the ancient artwork.

This design choice pays homage to the creativity of early humans, who used their surroundings as a canvas to express their connection to nature. By incorporating this element, Lascaux Designs seeks to evoke a sense of timelessness & artistry that resonates with both the past and the present.

The “X” represents not only the strength and vitality of the bulls but also the spirit of innovation and creativity that drives the brand. Lascaux Designs aspires to create work that honors tradition while embracing modern design principles. In doing so, the logo bridges the relationship between humans and the nature, resonating with history while inspiring a new era of creativity.

Story & Structure

The logo structure of Lascaux Designs draws inspiration from the unique formations of the Lascaux Cave, reflecting its intricate history. This design element symbolizes the evolution of artistic expression, from the discovery of the caves to the creation of the logo, capturing the essence of creativity that defines the brand.
